Immediately after the series Wednesday appeared on Netflix as a spin-off of The Addams Family, the series proved to be a mega success and the makers announced a second season. Unfortunately, it was announced that the season that follows may not be available on Netflix, but on another streaming service. Fortunately, it has now been decided that the series will ‘normally’ be shown on Netflix. Below you can read exactly what caused the uncertainty and discover everything we know so far about Wednesday season 2.

Wednesday Addams, the daughter of the famous Addams Family, is played by Jenny Ortega. And that did not go unnoticed: she has now been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the series. The series lead, Wednesday, has an eccentric character and doesn’t seem to care about blending in with the pack. The series follows her turbulent teenage years as she tries to deal with her paranormal gift. At the same time, she is battling a serial killer terrorizing the city and is involved in solving a murder mystery, which her parents seem to know more about. In short, a lot is going on and it is the ideal series to binge.

Netflix vs Prime

The series is produced by MGM Studios, which was recently purchased by Amazon for almost $8.5 billion (!). Since the second season of the series had not yet taken any shape at the time, we had to wait and see on which streaming service it would be shown. Although it sounds logical that the series will be moved to Prime Video, in other cases this often does not seem to be the case. It is more common for series to be produced by a production company, which is owned by another streaming service. Ultimately, it was decided to leave the series on Netflix, to the delight of all fans.

The trailer teaser was released last weekend. “Over the past few weeks, I have been hunted, bewitched, and imitated millions of times on the internet,” Jenny Ortega’s character reports. ‘It was pure torture. Thank you.’

Cast

Even though little is known about the second season, screenwriter Alfred Gough has already lifted the veil. For example, he reports that almost all relationships will be rediscovered and become more complicated and that the school was empty when the characters left, which offers possibilities for the creators and any new characters. The friendship between Wednesday and Enid receives extra attention because the audience feels a great connection with the duo. Gough also says it is interesting how the mother-daughter relationship between Wednesday and her mother develops in the continuation of the series, now that Wednesday’s mother knows more about her daughter’s unique powers.’

This season, the series welcomes new cast members, Netflix said, including Steve Buscemi ( The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire ), Billie Piper ( Scoop, I Hate Suzie ), Evie Templeton ( Return to Silent Hill, Lord of Misrule ), Owen Painter ( Tiny Beautiful Things, The Handmaid’s Tale ) and Noah Taylor ( Law & Order: Organized Crime, Park Avenue ). Fortunately, we can also enjoy familiar faces, such as -of course- Jenny Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo.

Director Tim Burton is also involved again in the second season.

Release date

It is not yet known when the show will appear on Netflix. In any case, Netflix announced in May 2024 that the filming of the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday has started in Ireland.
