Ramiz Raja Points to India’s Role in Pakistan’s Downfall

Pakistan cricket great Ramiz Raja believes that the team’s decline began when Indian batters outplayed their bowlers during the Asia Cup. The Pakistan men’s cricket team recently faced what could be considered their worst defeat in Test cricket history, losing by 10 wickets to Bangladesh at home. This humiliating loss has placed Shan Masood and his team under intense scrutiny, with both fans and former cricketers questioning their performance.

India’s Impact on Pakistan’s Confidence

Ramiz Raja, one of Pakistan’s finest batters, highlighted a unique perspective, suggesting that the team’s troubles against Bangladesh were rooted in their earlier experience against India in the Asia Cup. According to Ramiz, the confidence crisis began when Indian batters dominated Pakistani bowlers on seaming conditions. He noted that the secret was exposed: the way to counter Pakistan’s bowling attack was through aggression. He further pointed out that the speeds and skill set of Pakistan’s pacers had diminished.

Pakistan’s Bowling Struggles

In a video on his YouTube channel, Ramiz criticized the Pakistan bowling unit, comparing it unfavorably to Bangladesh’s. He observed that the Bangladesh fast bowlers appeared more effective, while Pakistan’s bowlers were involved in unnecessary drama around their wickets. Ramiz also emphasized that the absence of a genuine fast bowler in the Pakistan lineup allowed Bangladesh, with a relatively modest batting order, to hold their own against pacers delivering at speeds between 125 to 135 mph.

Critique of Shan Masood’s Leadership

Ramiz Raja didn’t limit his criticism to the bowlers but also aimed at captain Shan Masood, accusing him of failing to read the conditions properly, which led to the loss against Bangladesh. He pointed out that Masood, who is currently on a losing streak, didn’t adapt well to the conditions, contributing to Pakistan’s defeat on home soil.

Call for Improvement

Ramiz urged Masood to improve his batting and demonstrate a better understanding of the game. He remarked that being an experienced captain, with leadership stints in PSL and County cricket, Masood should have made better decisions, such as not picking four pacers for the Rawalpindi pitch in August. Ramiz warned that without improvements in his batting, Masood might soon lose his place in the team.

Consequences of Continued Losses

Ramiz concluded by stressing the importance of winning for the team’s morale and stability. He warned that another series loss could lead to tension in the dressing room, increased criticism, and further pressure on Pakistan cricket.
